How to change the origin server?

Modified on Fri, 15 Dec 2023 at 02:35 PM

When creating the configuration for your website, Fasterize uses the provided DNS record or IP address pointing to your origin server. It also creates its own DNS record pointing to your server for internal use. When your server address changes, you must reflect this change in the Fasterize configuration.

If it's an IP address, modifying this IP in the configuration is immediate.

If it's an DNS record that has changed, DNS record changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate and so is the update of Fasterize configuration. You can use the www.whatsmydns.net tool to check the status of your DNS records around the world.

You can also use a new DNS record to reflect the new origin server address.

When the DNS record is propagated, you can change the original location in the Fasterize console:

  • Go to the Fasterize admin console of the website
  • Click on the 'Domain' application.
  • Replace the 'origin' field with the new DNS record / IP Address
  • Click on 'SAVE SETTINGS'.

Fasterize servers will fetch the content from origin servers described here.

Remember that this must not point to Fasterize domains or CNAME but on your own servers or your CDN if Fasterize is configured to be in front of your CDN.
This can be changed anytime.

The change is immediate and the platform will use the new address of the origin.
